Aswan is Egypt's southernmost city, a tranquil town on the banks of the Nile that historically served as the country's gateway to Africa and a frontier trading post. It is known for its relaxed pace, golden dunes, colorful Nubian villages, and some of the most beautiful Nile scenery in all of Egypt.
From felucca sails at sunset to the temples of Philae and the monumental statues of Abu Simbel further south, Aswan blends Nubian culture with extraordinary ancient heritage.

Landmarks & History
- Philae Temple: a graceful temple dedicated to the goddess Isis, relocated stone by stone to Agilkia Island to save it from the rising waters of the Nile.
- Abu Simbel: the colossal rock temples of Ramses II, south of Aswan, famously relocated by a UNESCO campaign in the 1960s to escape Lake Nasser's waters.
- Aswan High Dam: completed in 1970, it tamed the Nile's annual flood and created Lake Nasser, one of the world's largest reservoirs.
- The Unfinished Obelisk: lying in the ancient granite quarries, it reveals how the ancient Egyptians carved their giant monuments.
