El Galala is a massive development on the mountainous plateau overlooking the Red Sea, between Ain Sokhna and Zafarana. It combines a new city, a world-class resort, and a major highway.
Built on the Northern Galala Plateau over 650–700 m above sea level, it enjoys cooler temperatures and stunning views of the Gulf of Suez, and features sustainable infrastructure including Egypt's first seawater desalination plant.

Overseen by the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, the project began in 2015 and has rolled out in phases, aiming to create new urban communities and boost Red Sea tourism, with over 15,000 employees involved in early phases.

El Galala rises about 700 metres on the highest plateau between Ain Sokhna and Zafarana, where the air runs roughly 11°C cooler than Cairo — a mild, year-round mountain climate above the Red Sea. Built by the Armed Forces Engineering Authority across some 17,000 acres, it pairs luxury tourism with serious infrastructure: the first seawater-desalination plant in Egypt and the Middle East, a factory for the plateau's prized marble, and a rainwater lake. It lies about two hours from Cairo and under an hour from the New Capital.
