Giza is an Egyptian city on the west bank of the Nile, globally famous as the home of the Giza Plateau, which contains the Great Pyramids and the Great Sphinx. • Best time to visit: late fall and winter (October–February); early morning beats the tour-bus crowds.
• Getting around: the site is vast with sandy, uneven terrain — camel rides, horse carriages, and golf carts are popular.
