The Red Sea Governorate is one of Egypt's 27 governorates, located between the Nile and the Red Sea in the southeast of the country; its southern border forms part of Egypt's border with Sudan. Its capital and largest city is Hurghada.
The coast is renowned for some of the planet's most vibrant coral reefs, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and year-round sunshine. Stretching from the Suez Canal down to the Sudanese border, it is both a major global shipping artery and a premier hub for diving, snorkeling, and luxury beach resorts.

The Sinai Peninsula splits the northern Red Sea into the Gulf of Suez and the Gulf of Aqaba. The coast is warm and sunny almost year-round; October–April is most comfortable on land, while many divers favour summer for the calmest seas and clearest water. International airports at Sharm El-Sheikh, Hurghada, and Marsa Alam make the coast easy to reach — and always dive with a licensed operator, never touching the coral.
