Egypt has significant renewable-energy potential, especially in wind and solar, and aims to source 42% of its electricity from renewables by 2035. Total renewable capacity reached roughly 8.3 GW in fiscal year 2024–2025.

Key developments include major new wind and solar farms and an emerging role as a green-hydrogen production hub, while hydropower remains an important clean source.

Major Renewable Resources

Wind energy: abundant resources along the Gulf of Suez, with several large-scale wind farms.
Solar energy: high solar irradiance suited to both photovoltaic (PV) and concentrated solar power (CSP).
Green hydrogen: Egypt is positioning itself as a leader, using solar and wind for production.
Hydropower: a stable clean source, most notably from the Aswan High Dam.
