2035Wind, solar, and green hydrogen toward 42% renewables by 2035.
Egypt has significant renewable-energy potential, especially in wind and solar, and aims to source 42% of its electricity from renewables by 2035. Total renewable capacity reached roughly 8.3 GW in fiscal year 2024–2025.
Key developments include major new wind and solar farms and an emerging role as a green-hydrogen production hub, while hydropower remains an important clean source.

Challenges include grid-integration costs and a continued reliance on fossil fuels in the overall electricity mix, with new investment heavily focused on solar and wind.

The Targets ·
Egypt now aims for renewables to supply 42% of its power mix by 2030 — brought forward from 2035 — rising to 60% by 2040. Installed renewable capacity reached about 8.6 GW in 2024/25, led by Benban's solar and the Gulf of Suez wind farms, with the national "Nexus of Water, Food & Energy" (NWFE) program adding roughly 10 GW more and tens of billions of dollars pledged for green hydrogen — positioning Egypt as a clean-energy hub between Europe, Asia, and Africa.
