From the ancient Nile Delta to vast new desert farms — feeding the nation and the world.
Agriculture is one of Egypt's oldest and most vital industries, contributing roughly 12–15% of GDP and employing a large share of the workforce. The fertile Nile Valley and Delta have been farmed for thousands of years, while today the country is expanding into the desert on a massive scale.
Egypt is the world's largest exporter of oranges and one of its biggest date producers, with fresh and processed farm exports reaching a record $11.5 billion in 2025 — about a quarter of all Egyptian exports, reaching 167 countries.

The biggest challenge is water: with Nile supplies under pressure, Egypt is rapidly switching to drip irrigation and lining its canals to save every drop.
