The "New Delta" is a massive land-reclamation and agricultural mega-project that aims to turn desert into fertile farmland. Launched in 2021, it lies west of the Nile Delta in the Western Desert and is intended to boost national food security and exports.

The project seeks to reclaim and cultivate over 2.2 million feddans (about 3,500 square miles) and is designed to create up to 5 million jobs through agro-processing industrial zones.

المشروع اليومThe Project Today

Launched in 2021 and officially inaugurated in May 2026, the New Delta is Egypt's largest land-reclamation project — a roughly $15 billion effort to turn 2.2 million feddans (about 9,000 km²) of Western Desert into farmland, expanding the country's cultivated area by around 15%. Treated drainage water from the world's largest water-treatment plant at El Hammam is carried across the desert to grow wheat, corn, vegetables, olives, and figs — easing Egypt's food-import bill and treating food security as a matter of national security. It is built by the Armed Forces Engineering Authority with Orascom, Hassan Allam, Arab Contractors, and Metito.
