An evening spectacle at the pyramids — coloured lights illuminate the monuments while the Great Sphinx itself narrates the story of ancient Egypt under the desert stars.
When the sun sets over Giza, the plateau comes alive in a different way. The famous Sound & Light Show bathes the pyramids and the Great Sphinx in colour, while a dramatic narration — voiced by the Sphinx itself — tells the sweeping story of ancient Egypt. Set against the night sky, with music swelling and the great monuments glowing in the dark, it is a magical and atmospheric way to experience the pyramids, and a wonderful complement to a daytime visit.
An Evening at the Pyramids ·
The monuments after dark.
After nightfall, the Giza plateau is transformed by a spectacular play of coloured lights, illuminating the three great pyramids and the Great Sphinx against the darkness. Audiences sit in a viewing area facing the Sphinx as the monuments are lit in shifting hues, accompanied by stirring music and narration. Lasting around 45 minutes, the show turns a visit into a theatrical experience, letting you see the pyramids in a completely different, dreamlike light.
The Story of the Plateau ·
History told in the dark.
The heart of the show is its narration, in which the Great Sphinx "speaks," recounting the story of the pharaohs who built the pyramids, the rise of ancient Egypt, and the secrets of the plateau. Dramatic lighting picks out each monument in turn as the tale unfolds, weaving history and legend together. It is an engaging, accessible way to absorb the broad story of Giza and its kings, especially enjoyable for first-time visitors and families.
Visiting the Show · حضور العرض
Plan your evening.
The Sound & Light Show runs in the evenings, usually with several sittings each night in different languages, so it is worth checking the current schedule and choosing a showing in your language. The seating faces the Sphinx and pyramids; in the cooler months a jacket is wise, as desert nights can be chilly. Combined with a daytime tour of the Great Pyramid and Sphinx, it rounds out a full and memorable day at Giza.
