Egypt is constructing dozens of new "fourth-generation" cities as part of its Vision 2030, a massive urbanization plan to modernize infrastructure and decongest major cities like Cairo. The projects include new administrative centers, tourist resorts, and residential developments across the country.
New cities under construction or recently inaugurated
New Administrative Capital (NAC)
The largest of the new cities, located 45 km east of Cairo, officially became the new seat of government in April 2024. It features key governmental and diplomatic districts, as well as Africa's tallest building, the Iconic Tower.
Ras El Hekma New City
An ambitious urban development on the North Coast, planned to become a major investment and tourism destination.
New Alamein
A coastal city on the Mediterranean being developed into a luxury tourist and residential destination. In May 2025, it was named the Arab Summer Resort Capital for 2025.
New Mansoura
Located in the Nile Delta along the Mediterranean coast, this smart city is being built to accommodate over a million people and includes a university and medical city.
New Galala
Situated on a mountain plateau overlooking the Red Sea, this city features high-end resorts, universities, and industrial zones.
New Zayed
Located west of Cairo, this is an expansion of the existing Sheikh Zayed City and includes numerous high-end residential projects.
Jirian
Announced in June 2025, this new city is a key part of the massive New Nile Delta agricultural project and will include luxury residences, skyscrapers, and a canal connected to the Nile.
Noor City
A smart, sustainable project located near the New Administrative Capital.
New Abu Qir City
A planned extension east of Alexandria to help with population growth.
New Suez City
A commercial and industrial hub that is part of the larger Suez Canal Corridor Development Project.
Projects in Upper Egypt
Several new cities are also being built in the south of Egypt, often referred to as Upper Egypt, as part of a strategy to expand development away from the Nile Delta region.
New Aswan
A new city being developed north of the existing city of Aswan.
New Luxor
A smart city being developed as a cultural and tourism hub.
New Sohag
An emerging economic and medical hub.
