None of the Galala development would be possible without the remarkable road that climbs the mountain to reach it. The Galala Plateau Road is a major engineering achievement — an 82-kilometre mountain highway that sweeps up the plateau in wide, modern lanes. Built to be fast, safe, and secured against flash floods, it replaced an older, notoriously dangerous coastal route and opened the high plateau to development and visitors alike.

The Galala Plateau Road runs for around 82 kilometres, climbing from the coast up onto the high plateau. Engineered to a high standard, it features three lanes in each direction and allows speeds of up to 120 km/h, making the ascent of the mountain smooth and fast. Its wide, well-graded carriageways turn what was once a difficult journey into an easy, comfortable drive, and the route itself offers dramatic mountain scenery along the way.

Crucially, the new road replaced an older coastal route long notorious for its danger. The modern highway is engineered with flood-protection systems — channels and barriers to manage the flash floods that can sweep down the mountains — and central barriers to keep vehicles safe on the slopes. This focus on safety transformed access to the region, making travel to the plateau far more secure and reliable than before.
