Egypt's new railways are not only about moving people — they are also built to move goods. That job falls to the Vectron freight locomotives, 41 powerful engines designed to haul cargo across the country. Together they are projected to move some 13 to 15 million tons of freight a year, shifting goods from congested roads onto fast, efficient rail and giving the network an important economic and logistical role alongside its passenger services.

The 41 Vectron locomotives are heavy-duty engines built to pull freight trains across Egypt's new lines, projected to move 13 to 15 million tons of cargo a year. By carrying goods that would otherwise travel by truck, they help reduce road congestion, cut transport costs, and lower emissions. Rail freight is far more efficient over long distances, so this capacity adds real economic value, linking ports, industrial zones, and cities across the country.

The 41 Vectron freight locomotives were ordered alongside the Velaro and Desiro passenger trains as part of Egypt's landmark contract with Siemens. A proven, widely used European locomotive type, the Vectron brings reliable, modern freight haulage to the country. Together, passenger and freight trains make the new railways a complete, multipurpose network serving the whole nation.
