Three ways to spend seven daysثلاث طرق
Round trip, Luxor–Aswan–Luxor. The most commonly sold seven-night cruise. Same temples, revisited or given more time, with a slower rhythm and more sailing hours on deck. Good if you want a restful holiday with monuments attached; repetitive if you want new sights every day.
Dahabiya, five to seven nights. Where a week genuinely earns its length. Small sailing boat, village and quarry stops the fleet passes, and a schedule loose enough to respond to the wind. See the luxury cruise page.
Lake Nasser, three to four nights, plus a Nile leg. South of the High Dam is a separate waterway with its own small fleet, calling at Nubian temples — Kalabsha, Wadi es-Sebua, Amada — and ending at Abu Simbel from the water, which is how the temples were meant to be approached.
What the extra days addما تضيفه الأيام الإضافية
| Time at each temple | The main gain. Edfu and Kom Ombo at your own pace instead of a scheduled hour. |
|---|---|
| Deck time | Hours of riverbank — villages, sugar cane, herons, sandbanks. Genuinely the point for some travellers. |
| Optional extras | Room for the Luxor balloon, Dendera, or a second West Bank morning. |
| What it doesn't add | New temples. The route is fixed by the river. |
| Cost | Seven nights on a standard boat often costs less than four on a premium one — length and tier are separate decisions. |
Who a week suitsلمن تناسب
Repeat visitors to Egypt, travellers who want a holiday rather than an itinerary, and anyone on a dahabiya. First-time visitors with limited days are usually better served by a three or four-night sailing plus more time in Cairo — the pyramid fields and the Grand Egyptian Museum need days that a round trip quietly consumes.
Common questionsأسئلة شائعة
Is a 7 day Nile cruise too long?
For a first visit with limited time, often yes — it repeats the same stops and eats days better spent in Cairo. For repeat visitors, dahabiya sailings, or anyone wanting a restful trip, it works well.
What does a 7 night Nile cruise include?
Usually a Luxor–Aswan round trip covering the same temples as a shorter sailing, with more time at each and more hours under way. Some include extras like Dendera or a second West Bank visit.
What is a Lake Nasser cruise?
A separate route south of the High Dam, calling at relocated Nubian temples and finishing at Abu Simbel from the water. Three to four nights, on a small fleet, and much quieter than the main Nile.
Is a 7 day cruise more expensive than a 4 day one?
Per trip yes, per night often no. A week on a standard boat can cost less than four nights on a premium one — decide length and tier separately.
