A restored steamer. A handful of historic vessels, small, expensive, and heavy on period atmosphere. Book for the boat itself rather than the route.

Dahabiyas usually sail Esna or Luxor to Aswan over five to seven nights and often require a minimum booking in peak season; some are chartered whole by families or groups, which for six to ten travellers can cost less per head than it sounds.
Wind matters on a sailing boat. Schedules are indicative, and a tow is used when the wind fails — that's normal rather than a failure.
