- Day 1 — Luxor. Board at midday. Karnak and Luxor Temple in the afternoon, often with the East Bank covered before you sail.
- Day 2 — West Bank. Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's terraces at Deir el-Bahari, the Colossi of Memnon. Sail south in the afternoon to Esna and through the lock.
- Day 3 — Edfu. The Temple of Horus, the most completely preserved temple in Egypt, usually reached by horse cart from the mooring. Sail on to Kom Ombo for the double temple of Sobek and Haroeris, best in late light.
- Day 4 — Aswan. Arrive morning. Philae Temple on its island, the High Dam, the unfinished obelisk, and a felucca around Elephantine at sunset.
- Day 5 — Disembark. Fly out of Aswan, or add Abu Simbel as a day before flying.

Every boat sailing between Luxor and Aswan passes the Esna lock, and traffic can back up for hours. Boats queue, and small vendors row out to throw goods up to the decks — a long-standing ritual that visitors find either charming or wearing. Nothing goes wrong here; it's just slow, and worth knowing about before you wonder why the boat has stopped.
