ETCS — the European Train Control System — is the signaling standard used across Europe's high-speed lines, and Egypt's network uses its advanced Level 2. Instead of relying only on trackside signals, it continuously communicates with each train, sending movement authority and speed information directly to the driver's display. This allows trains to run safely at high speed and to be spaced more closely, increasing both safety and the number of trains the line can carry.

By tracking trains precisely and automatically enforcing safe speeds and distances, ETCS Level 2 enables frequent, reliable service while sharply reducing the risk of human error.
