- Beach vacation — a week or two at a Red Sea resort in Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, Marsa Alam or El Gouna, usually all-inclusive, often with charter flights. The cheapest way to spend a week in Egypt.
- Culture vacation — Cairo, the Nile, Luxor and Aswan, moving every two or three nights, guided throughout. Costs more and asks more of you.
- Combined — culture first, beach second, typically ten to fourteen days. The most popular two-week shape and the one most people are happiest with.
A fourth exists for repeat visitors: liveaboard diving, Western Desert expeditions, or a dahabiya on the Nile.
