The 6th October Monorail (the West Nile line) runs roughly 42 kilometres with around a dozen stations, connecting 6th of October City — one of Cairo's largest satellite cities — with Giza and the heart of the metropolis. Like its eastern twin, it uses driverless, automated trains on an elevated guideway, offering a fast, traffic-free alternative for the many residents and workers of Cairo's sprawling western districts.

Once both lines are running, the combined system is set to be the longest driverless monorail in the world — a centrepiece of Egypt's drive for clean, modern mass transit to ease congestion across Greater Cairo.
