Wheat is the foundation of the Egyptian diet, and storing it securely is a national priority. The New Delta's grain silos are built to hold very large quantities — reported in the hundreds of thousands of tonnes — protecting the harvest from spoilage and waste. These strategic reserves help shield the country from shortages and price shocks, an especially important goal given Egypt's historic reliance on imported wheat.
