If the North Coast has a social heart, it is here. Marina and neighbouring Sidi Abdel Rahman form the most famous and established stretch of Egypt's summer Sahel — a glamorous world of saltwater lagoons, a yacht-filled marina, lively beach clubs, and some of the most beautiful turquoise water on the whole coast. For decades, this has been where fashionable Cairo and Alexandria come to spend the summer, swimming, socialising, and soaking up the Mediterranean sun.

Marina (Marina El Alamein) is the best-known resort town on the North Coast — a large, upscale gated development built around a network of saltwater lagoons and a yacht marina. Its waterfront is lined with restaurants, cafés, and beach clubs, and in high summer it buzzes with social life, music, and pleasure boats. With its lagoons, promenades, and lively atmosphere, Marina has long been the glamorous epicentre of the Sahel summer, a place to see and be seen on the Egyptian Mediterranean.

A little to the west lies Sidi Abdel Rahman, renowned for having some of the most spectacular water on the entire coast — a long stretch of soft white sand meeting sea in vivid, glowing turquoise. Long a prestigious beach destination, it is home to landmark hotels and resorts and remains a byword for North Coast beauty. The shallow, brilliantly clear water here is perfect for swimming and simply gazing at, and gives Sidi Abdel Rahman its lasting, postcard-perfect fame.

Together, Marina and Sidi Abdel Rahman define the classic North Coast summer experience. It sits at the established core of the Sahel, close to the gleaming new city of New Alamein, blending decades of summer tradition with the coast's fast-growing future.

Marina and Sidi Abdel Rahman lie on the Mediterranean coast west of Alexandria, easily reached by the coastal highway from Alexandria and Cairo. Like all of the Sahel, they are at their liveliest in high summer (June–September), when the resorts and beach clubs are in full swing, and much quieter outside the season. Much of the area is organised around gated resort "villages," so it helps to know where you're staying — but the reward is that famous turquoise water and the buzz of an Egyptian summer.
