Lake Nasserبحيرة ناصر

One of the largest man-made reservoirs on Earth, stretching south from the Aswan High Dam into Sudan.واحدة من أكبر البحيرات الصناعية في العالم، تمتد جنوبًا من السد العالي بأسوان حتى السودان

Born from the High Dam

Lake Nasser formed after the completion of the Aswan High Dam in 1970, flooding a long stretch of the Nile Valley and creating a reservoir over 500 kilometres long, shared between Egypt and Sudan. Its rise is what made the relocation of the Abu Simbel temples necessary in the first place — without the rescue project, both monuments would now lie beneath its waters.

Visiting the Lake

Today, the lake sits directly beside the Abu Simbel complex and is a striking backdrop for the temples, especially at sunrise. Multi-day Lake Nasser cruises, departing from Aswan, are a popular way to see Abu Simbel alongside other relocated Nubian monuments along the shoreline, including Kalabsha and Amada.
