Ramesses II's monumental rock temples on the shores of Lake Nasser, near Egypt's southern border.معابد رمسيس الثاني الصخرية الضخمة على ضفاف بحيرة ناصر، قرب الحدود الجنوبية لمصر
Carved directly into a sandstone cliff around 1264 BCE, the Abu Simbel temples were built to commemorate Ramesses II's victory at the Battle of Kadesh and to project Egyptian power at the Nubian frontier. In the 1960s, when the construction of the Aswan High Dam threatened to submerge the site under the rising waters of Lake Nasser, UNESCO led one of the most ambitious rescue projects in history — cutting both temples into more than 1,000 blocks and reassembling them, piece by piece, on higher ground.
Today the complex draws visitors for its sheer scale, its precise solar alignment, and its place beside the vast, still waters of Lake Nasser.
