Cavafy — the celebrated Alexandrian Greek poet — kept much as he left it, a quiet literary shrine in the heart of the city he made famous.

In a quiet apartment in central Alexandria lived one of the great poets of the modern age: Constantine P. Cavafy. An Alexandrian Greek whose spare, haunting verse made the city itself a central character in world literature, Cavafy is now honoured in the very home where he spent his final decades. Preserved as a museum, with his furniture, books, and personal belongings, it is a moving literary pilgrimage and a window into the cosmopolitan, Greek Alexandria of a century ago.

Spare, reflective, world-famous.

Constantine P. Cavafy (1863–1933) is regarded as one of the most important modern Greek poets and a major figure of world literature. Living most of his life in Alexandria, he wrote spare, reflective poems on history, memory, desire, and the passage of time, often drawing on the ancient Greek world and on his beloved city. Unconventional and quietly revolutionary, his work won lasting international fame, influencing poets and writers far beyond Greece and Egypt.
