The New Delta relies on smart irrigation — modern, water-saving systems powered increasingly by renewable energy and guided by precision-agriculture technology. By delivering exactly the right amount of water to each crop and wasting as little as possible, these systems make large-scale farming in an arid climate both possible and sustainable.

The New Delta uses modern, efficient irrigation — such as drip and pivot systems — rather than wasteful flood irrigation, part of what Egypt calls a shift to a "second generation" of irrigation. These methods deliver water directly to plant roots, dramatically reducing the amount lost to evaporation and runoff. In a country with very limited water, this water-saving approach is essential to making every cubic metre — much of it carefully recycled — go as far as possible.
