The show takes place in the evening within the great complex of Karnak itself. Coloured lighting picks out the temple's monumental features — the great Hypostyle Hall with its forest of giant columns, the towering pylons, the obelisks, and the sacred lake — while music and a powerful spoken narration bring the ancient site to life. The effect of seeing these 3,000-year-old monuments dramatically lit against the night sky is genuinely spellbinding.

The narration tells the sweeping story of ancient Thebes — the rise of the city, the glory of its pharaohs, and the worship of the great god Amun to whom Karnak was dedicated. It is an accessible, engaging way to absorb the history and grandeur of the site, especially enjoyable as an introduction or a memorable finale to a day in Luxor.
