Not just buying clean-energy gear, but building it — new factories planned to make solar panels, turbines, and batteries in Egypt, localizing the supply chain and creating jobs.
Egypt does not just want to install renewable energy — it wants to manufacture the equipment too. As part of its clean-energy drive, the country is attracting investment in new factories to build solar panels, wind-turbine components, and batteries at home. Localizing this supply chain promises to create jobs, cut costs, reduce reliance on imports, and position Egypt as a regional manufacturing base for the booming global clean-energy industry.

Until now, Egypt has largely imported the solar panels, turbines, and batteries for its renewable projects. The new push aims to change that by building factories inside Egypt to manufacture this equipment. Major investors — including consortia tied to the country's big solar and wind projects — have signed deals to add large amounts of domestic solar-panel and battery manufacturing capacity, with turbine components and solar cells also targeted.

Localizing manufacturing brings several big benefits. It creates skilled jobs and builds local expertise; it reduces costs and import dependence, making projects cheaper and more resilient; and it keeps more of the economic value of the energy transition within Egypt. It also fits the country's wider industrial ambitions, complementing manufacturing hubs in the new cities and economic zones across the country.

With its location, growing renewable market, and industrial ambitions, Egypt hopes these factories will not only serve its own projects but also export clean-energy equipment across Africa and the Middle East. Turning "installed in Egypt" into "made in Egypt" is a key goal of the national clean-energy strategy — ensuring the country builds a lasting industry, not just a set of power plants, out of its renewable boom.
