Information and communications technology has become one of the brightest stars of the Egyptian economy. Backed by the government's ambitious "Digital Egypt" strategy, the sector has been growing at double-digit rates year after year, making it a centerpiece of the country's drive to modernise and diversify its economy.

For years, ICT has been one of the fastest-growing sectors in the entire Egyptian economy, expanding at annual rates of roughly 14–16% — well ahead of overall GDP growth. By the government's own measure, the sector's share of GDP has roughly doubled over the past seven years, rising toward around 6%. The momentum shows no sign of slowing: analysts project Egypt's digital-economy market could roughly double in value, toward the $50-billion range, by 2030. Rising public and private investment, a flood of new tech graduates, and surging demand from a youthful population are all feeding the boom.

Egypt has emerged as a major global outsourcing and offshoring destination. Its young, cost-competitive workforce — fluent across Arabic, English, French, German, and other languages — has made it a natural home for call centres, software development, and business services. The country's digital exports surged to around $7.4 billion in 2025 (up 124% since 2018), while outsourcing exports roughly doubled to about $4.8 billion in just three years. Egypt now hosts hundreds of outsourcing companies and service centres, and global giants such as Microsoft, IBM, Amazon, Oracle, and Vodafone have built a growing presence. In late 2025 alone, the government signed deals with dozens of firms expected to create tens of thousands of new jobs.

Underpinning the boom is the government's "Digital Egypt" strategy (ICT 2030), built around digital innovation, better citizen services, stronger exports, and new jobs. Since 2019 Egypt has invested some $6 billion in internet infrastructure, lifting average fixed broadband speeds many times over. New technology parks — from Cairo's Smart Village to the Knowledge City rising in the New Administrative Capital — give companies modern homes. The Egypt Digital Services platform now offers hundreds of government services online to millions of users, and a vast skills drive has expanded technology training from a few thousand people a year to hundreds of thousands. Egypt is even building local electronics and mobile-phone manufacturing and the beginnings of a regional semiconductor ecosystem.

For investors, Egypt's digital economy offers an unusual mix of advantages: a huge, young, multilingual talent pool, costs that remain competitive against other outsourcing hubs, a strategic location at the crossroads of the world's internet cables linking Europe, Asia, and Africa, and active government incentives channelled through bodies like the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA). A lively home-grown startup and fintech scene — spanning digital payments, e-commerce, and financial inclusion — rounds out the picture. Taken together, they make ICT one of the most compelling sectors in the Egyptian investment story.
