Once the capital of ancient Egypt during the 9th and 10th Dynasties, Beni Suef today bridges the Nile Valley and the oasis of Faiyum. Nearby stands the Meidum Pyramid, an early experiment in pyramid design that predates Giza's smooth-sided giants.

كانت بني سويف عاصمة مصر القديمة في الأسرتين التاسعة والعاشرة، وهي اليوم جسر بين وادي النيل وواحة الفيوم. يقع بالقرب منها هرم ميدوم، وهو تجربة مبكرة في تصميم الأهرامات سبقت عمالقة الجيزة الملساء.
