Rising on a hill overlooking the New Capital is one of the city's first great landmarks: the Al-Fattah Al-Aleem Mosque. Opened in 2019, this vast and beautiful mosque can hold around 17,000 worshippers, its domes and minarets a striking sight above the new city. It was inaugurated on the very same day as the nearby Cathedral of the Nativity — the two great houses of worship deliberately opened together as a powerful symbol of religious coexistence in Egypt.

For thousands of worshippers.لآلاف المصلّين.

The Al-Fattah Al-Aleem Mosque was among the first major monuments completed in the New Capital, inaugurated in 2019. One of the largest mosques in Egypt, it can accommodate around 17,000 worshippers, with a vast prayer hall beneath grand domes, tall minarets, and elegant decoration in the classic Islamic style. Set on a low hill above the city, it is a prominent and graceful landmark, visible across the surrounding districts and a centre of religious life for the new capital.

A Symbol of Coexistence · رمزٌ للتعايش

Two faiths, one day.ديانتان، يومٌ واحد.

What makes the mosque especially significant is the way it was opened. On the same day in January 2019, Egypt's leadership inaugurated both this great mosque and the nearby Cathedral of the Nativity — the largest cathedral in the Middle East. Opening the country's grand new mosque and cathedral together, side by side in the new capital, was a deliberate and powerful message of national unity and religious coexistence between Egypt's Muslim and Christian communities.

Together with the cathedral, the mosque forms part of the symbolic and architectural identity of the New Capital, standing among the city's other landmarks such as the great Misr Grand Mosque and the towers of the central business district. For visitors and residents alike, the Al-Fattah Al-Aleem Mosque is both an important place of worship and a striking emblem of the values the new city seeks to represent.
