A broad, fast-rebounding industrial base — from textiles and cars to food, chemicals, and steel — at the heart of Egypt's "Made in Egypt" drive and Vision 2030.
Manufacturing is one of the cornerstones of the Egyptian economy and a top priority of the country's reform program. From the cotton mills of the Delta to modern car-assembly lines and sprawling industrial zones along the Suez Canal, Egypt has built one of the most diverse industrial bases in the region. After a difficult few years, the sector has bounced back strongly — and the government has made expanding it, deepening local production, and growing the "Made in Egypt" brand a central pillar of its Vision 2030.
A Broad Industrial Base ·
One of the most diversified industrial sectors in the region.
Egypt's industry spans an unusually wide range. It has a deep heritage in textiles and ready-made garments, built on world-famous Giza cotton, and a fast-growing automotive industry now moving into electric-vehicle assembly. Beyond these, the country produces food and beverages, building materials such as cement, chemicals and petrochemicals, iron and steel, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, and a rising volume of electronics — including locally assembled mobile phones. This breadth gives Egypt both a large domestic market to serve and a varied platform from which to export.
A Sector on the Rebound ·
Non-oil manufacturing surged after a tough spell.
After contracting sharply in 2023, Egypt's non-oil manufacturing roared back, posting growth of around 17% for several consecutive quarters in 2024–25 and ranking among the fastest-growing parts of the economy. The recovery was led by standout performers: motor-vehicle production jumped dramatically, while ready-made garments, beverages, paper, and textiles all grew strongly, and exports of finished goods rose with them. Looking ahead, the government targets industrial output of roughly EGP 2.9 trillion in 2025/26 and a sharp increase in manufacturing investment — with the private sector providing more than 80% of it.
The Localization Drive ·
A national push to build more at home.
At the centre of policy is the National Industry Strategy (2024–2030), which aims to raise the industrial sector's share of GDP from about 14% to 20% and to double industrial jobs from 3.7 million to 7 million by the end of the decade. A major theme is localization and import substitution: the government has identified 28 priority sectors — from auto parts and steel to medicines and renewable-energy components — where local manufacturing can replace imports and save foreign currency. To make this easier, it has rolled out "golden licences" for fast single-approval permits, freed up millions of square metres of serviced industrial land through a digital platform, and streamlined customs for raw materials. Lower operating costs have also drawn foreign manufacturers — including around 200 Turkish companies — to relocate to Egypt.
Why It Matters for Investors ·
A big market and a launchpad for exports.
For manufacturers, Egypt combines a large, young workforce and competitive operating costs with duty-friendly access to vast markets through trade agreements spanning Africa, the Arab world, Europe, and beyond — making the country a launchpad for exports, not just domestic sales. Dedicated industrial zones, above all the Suez Canal Economic Zone, offer ready infrastructure beside global shipping lanes, while incentives, golden licences, and the import-substitution program create clear openings for new factories. Investors typically begin with the official authorities — the Ministry of Industry, the Industrial Development Authority (IDA), and the General Authority for Investment (GAFI) — for licensing, land, and incentives.
