Nilkreuzfahrt: Luxor nach Assuan

  • Tag 1 – Luxor. Mittags an Bord.

GeschwindigkeitSailing against the current is slower, so more of the journey happens while you're awake — pleasant rather than a problem.
EndingYou finish in Aswan, which is the better place to end: calmer, prettier, and the jumping-off point for Abu Simbel.
FlügeConfirm your international routing works from Aswan before choosing this direction.

The Esna lock

Every boat sailing between Luxor and Aswan passes the Esna lock, and traffic can back up for hours. Boats queue, and small vendors row out to throw goods up to the decks — a long-standing ritual that visitors find either charming or wearing. Nothing goes wrong here; it's just slow, and worth knowing about before you wonder why the boat has stopped.

Häufige Fragen

How long is the Luxor to Aswan cruise?

Typically four nights, sailing upstream. The downstream Aswan to Luxor version is usually three.

Which direction is better on the Nile?

Luxor to Aswan gives more Luxor time and ends in the nicer city. Aswan to Luxor is shorter and cheaper. The deciding factor is usually which airport your flights work from.

What do you see between Luxor and Aswan?

Esna and its lock, the Temple of Horus at Edfu, and the double temple at Kom Ombo, with Luxor's temples and tombs at one end and Philae and the High Dam at the other.

Is the Esna lock worth seeing?

It's unavoidable rather than a highlight — every boat passes through it, and queues can take hours. Vendors rowing out to the boats is part of the experience.
